Artist-in-Residence Program

TRASA urban arts collective’s Artist-in-Residence program supports emerging visual and performing artists in the creation and exhibition of innovative new work. TRASA’s studio facilities, combined with our unique exhibition and performance spaces, provide artists of all media the opportunity for in-depth exploration and the realization of ambitious projects.

This program provides studio workspace, access to equipment and technical assistance, exhibition opportunities, and funding, and establishes a vital channel of interaction between the Salt Lake community and cutting-edge artists from around the continent.

Applications for our Artist-in-Residence Program are accepted on an ongoing basis. We are interested in artists whose work fosters critical dialogue about contemporary sociopolitical and cultural issues. The commercial potential of work is not a factor.

We are also interested in proposals that consider the unique architecture of TRASA's facility and encourage site specific work. (space map)

  • Large exhibition/performance spaces (9,000 square feet indoors, 10,000 square feet outdoors). Whenever possible, portions of this space will be sectioned off for additional private project space for Artists-in-Residence.
  • A fabrication studio with woodworking and welding equipment.
  • ADA accessible kitchen and bathrooms.
  • Limited video and sound recording/production/editing facilities.
  • PA system, 4 monitors, and a 16 channel mixing board.
  • DSL Internet access.
  • Technical support from TRASA staff and volunteers.

Studios range in size from 200 to 600 square feet. Artists will not be permitted to choose their studio.

Selection Process

A panel of artists and arts professionals will review applications and select artists as space allows. Artists will be selected on the quality of their work and their potential for making the most of their time in the program.

For all submitting artists, a letter will be sent to you informing you of the Curatorial Committee's decision, and any further action you need to take, if any.

Please be aware that it will take up to six months for TRASA's staff to review your proposal.
